Zacheriah Cota-Weaver

Hometown: Starksboro, Vt.

Year: Freshman

Major: Nursing (Associate Degree)

Vermonter Zacheriah Cota-Weaver comes from a family of firefighters. Zach works as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in Starksboro while maintaining full-time status at Southern Vermont College in the Nursing program. As an advanced EMT and licensed nurses assistant, Zach brings practical experience to his classroom studies.

In March, Zach spent two weeks in Haiti with a responder team from Vermont and said that the experience was “virtually indescribable.” Upon his return, Zack spoke at a campus event, about his first-hand look at the extreme poverty and medical need in the country. He thanked his professors and support staff at SVC for helping to make the trip possible.

Zach is a student who sees so many options for learning while doing to help get results – in healthcare, law enforcement and education. His long-term goal, after becoming a nurse, is to continue for a master’s degree then a doctorate degree. Part of Zach’s dream is to run a hospital and/or teach and make a difference in the world.
