Hometown: Belchertown, Mass.
Major: Healthcare Management and Advocacy
Stephanie heard about SVC at a college fair at her high school in Belchertown, Mass., where an SVC admissions representative invited her to attend an on-campus Open House. At Open House, Stephanie met another prospective student, Amanda Glick from Goshen, N.Y.; they became fast friends through e-mails and Facebook and both applied to Southern Vermont College.
Stephanie feels at home at SVC. “My friends at the College and the faculty and staff that work here are like family to me.” She likes the smallness of the place, the scenery and the personable teachers. As a work-study student in the Admissions Office, she enjoys sharing these campus attributes while giving tours to prospective students and their families. Although she has not yet declared a major, she knows she wants to help people and is leaning towards psychology. Stephanie’s favorite professors at SVC are Barry Flanary, Ph.D., who teaches Human Biology, and Lynda Sinkiewich, who teaches courses in humanities.
Stephanie, an avid hiker, helped clean up the trails on campus for Martin Luther King, Jr., Community Service Day and is passionate about volunteering and working with youth. Back in Belchertown, she has volunteered at a preschool with mentally-challenged children and works as a camp counselor in the summer.
Susan has spent much of her professional nursing career as a teacher.
