Ryan learned of Southern Vermont College (SVC) through his classmates at Housatonic Valley High School in Falls Village, CT.
Majoring in Communication, Ryan has been the Vice President of SVC’s Student Government Association. He has participated in Alternative Spring Break where students comes together to participate in a community service project during Spring Break. He also participated in the Campus Community Dinner Series, a project that invites local families with elementary to high school-aged children to join SVC students to experience the benefits of family dinners and engage in thoughtful conversation over meals prepared and served on campus. Ryan also tutors other students who are taking writing and communication classes.
"At SVC, I've taken advantage of the many hiking trails on campus. I also interned at Spirit Hollow in Shaftsbury, VT, teaching outdoor skills to children and teens."
"I have a passion for the environment, and I'm a member of SVC’s Environmental Club. Eventually I would like to become involved in environmental education, work with a national park association or other similar organization."
Some of his favorite classes have been Philanthropy, Rhetoric, Women in Literature, and Writers, Lives & Works.
“Be willing to take some risks,” says Ryan. “Make connections. Get involved.”
Ryan lives by the words his dad often quotes: “It's easier to ask forgiveness than it is to get permission” (by Grace Hopper).
