Campus Life

College is more than classroom lectures, library research, term papers, and final exams. College is also about trying new activities, experiencing new adventures, and making new friends. It is about accepting personal challenges, broadening your skills, and making your future happen. Student Life and the Office of Student Involvement & Leadership can help you get the most out of your college experience.

The Office of Student Involvement & Leadership provides opportunities for students to participate in a variety of extracurricular and co-curricular activities. Though our campus is small, we offer the type of activities that you expect from any college or university--an active Student Government Association; The Mountain Press, our college newspaper; clubs and organizations; cultural and educational programs; and a wide variety of social activities. There are also opportunities to start your own clubs or organizations.

There are a number of great reasons for getting involved in your college. You have the chance to meet new people with similar interests, the opportunity to gain new experiences and information, and the means to explore new ideas. These are just a few of the benefits. More importantly, you have a career goal. The employers and graduate schools you will be interested in are pursued by many students just like yourself. You will need an edge while pursuing to land a job or be granted admission to a graduate school. Your academic performance will be an important factor in their decision. However, they will also want individuals with demonstrated leadership skills, practical experience, and a true commitment to personal excellence. Your involvement in campus and community activities gives you those skills and experiences, whether you are a Student Government Association officer, a Community Advisor, president of your club or organization, a reporter or editor for a campus publication, a participant in campus activities, or a volunteer in a local community service activity. Southern Vermont College can provide you with the experiences you need to reach your goals and have fun at the same time!
