Mathematics Support
Worried about the College mathematics requirement?
Many students come to campus with a great deal of anxiety about college mathematics. Some students may have avoided college prep courses like algebra and geometry. Other students may have been out of school for many years, so they have forgotten some of the math skills they learned in high school. Mathematics may pose a special obstacle to some students because of a learning disability.
How can Southern Vermont College help me improve my math skills?
College Math (Ma100)
If we believe you will need some extra time to complete the college's mathematics requirement, we will recommend that you take College Math (Ma 100). This course allows you two semesters to complete the math requirement. At the end of the first semester you will receive the notation "IP" on your transcript and you will complete the course in the second semester. You will not be charged for the second semester.
Tutorial Help
The Success Center has trained tutors available to help you with mathematics at no charge. Please check our link to the Tutoring Services.
What if I have a learning disability?
In some cases a student may not be able to complete our mathematics requirement because of a learning disability. If you believe a learning disability may prevent you from succeeding in mathematics, please speak to our Learning Differences Coordinator, David Lindenberg, 447-6360, dlindenberg@svc.edu.
